Toddler Play Area

soft play spaces for the youngest children

Truly family-friendly hospitality begins where even the youngest children have a dedicated, safe space of their own. Whether in a hotel lobby, a corner of a restaurant, or a nursery or preschool room, the same question decides the outcome: will a parent arriving with a child aged 0–6 feel comfortable putting them down — and if so, how long will they stay?

Baby Ground is our own soft play product range, designed specifically for this age group. For children who touch everything, taste everything, and need maximum protection from even the smallest stumble.

It can be installed in as little as 4 m² — either as a standalone play corner or as a separate toddler zone within a larger indoor play centre.

Who is it for?

Wherever it is installed, a toddler play area solves the same problem: guests with young children stay for as long as their child is happy.

  • Hotels and spas — the lobby, the spa reception or an unused corner beside the restaurant are the most common locations. Keeping children engaged directly increases the time families spend in your venue.
  • Restaurants and cafés — a well-placed play corner is the most cost-effective way to make a venue genuinely family-friendly.
  • Nurseries and preschools — where supporting motor development is a daily responsibility, and where equipment has to withstand constant use for years.
  • Therapy and early development centres — our foam elements can also be ordered for sensory and movement therapy sessions.
  • Shopping centres, clinics and waiting rooms — where waiting time is the most critical point of the visitor experience.
  • Indoor play centres — as a toddler zone safely separated from the main structure for older children, broadening the age range of your visitors. More about [soft play structures]

Premium, hypoallergenic soft play elements

At the heart of every Baby Ground element is comfortable, safe, hypoallergenic foam. We cover it with high-gloss, waterproof, highly durable PVC fabric that provides maximum fall protection while ensuring long-lasting performance.

This construction solves two problems most operators face:

Hygiene. The sealed, waterproof surface can be wiped clean easily with a damp cloth and disinfectant. There are no porous, absorbent surfaces for dirt to settle in — an essential requirement for settings that clean several times a day.

Durability. The heavy-duty fabric is made for daily use. It doesn’t tear in the first few months, nothing peels away from it, and it doesn’t yellow in sunlight.

What goes into a Baby Ground play area?

Elements can be combined freely and are also available individually — in any shape, size and quantity:

  • Mini slides and play houses — low, soft structures scaled to the youngest children
  • Mini ball pools — with a safe edge height
  • Foam building blocks — large, gym-style elements for independent movement development
  • Geometric skill-building walls
  • Soft floor elements and fall-protection surfacing — to define the zone

Our pre-designed sets make planning easier, but every one of them can be fully adapted to your available space and your needs.

More than play: skill development

The elements of our geometric skill-building play corner help children recognise shapes through a self-correcting design: only the correct shapes, assembled from matching halves, fit into the moulded recesses. This way, children get instant feedback on whether they’ve worked it out — without needing an adult’s help.

This element is particularly valuable in nurseries and preschools, where play and development go hand in hand.

Sensory and movement therapy

Our standalone foam elements — building blocks, giant balls, rollers — can also be ordered to meet therapeutic requirements, depending on their design. They are suitable for sensory integration and movement therapy sessions, early intervention and special educational needs work.

If you’re looking for equipment for this kind of use, we tailor the size, firmness and surface to the nature of your sessions.

Foam play elements are also available individually

Not every setting needs a complete play corner. Baby Ground elements can be ordered individually, in any quantity — and each one works as a play piece on its own.

Sometimes a few large building blocks are all a nursery room needs. Adding one or two new elements to an existing play corner can make a visible difference. And a developmental educator is often looking for one specific piece of equipment, not a full installation.

That’s why we manufacture the elements in the shape, size, firmness and colour of your choice:

  • Foam building blocks — cubes, cylinders, prisms and curved pieces
  • Large soft obstacle elements — for climbing, balancing and crawling through
  • Giant balls and rollers
  • Soft floor elements and fall-protection mats
  • Geometric skill-building elements

The construction is the same as in our complete sets: a shape-retaining cold-cure polyurethane foam core, in a hypoallergenic finish, covered with high-gloss, waterproof PVC fabric — built for intensive daily use and quick disinfection.

We also manufacture to custom sizes and branding: if an element needs to fit around existing furniture, a corner or a column, we’ll make it work.

What to check before you buy

A few points worth reviewing before you decide — whoever you buy from:

  • What kind of foam is used: Low-density foams compress quickly and lose their fall-protection properties.
  • Can small pieces come loose: Children of this age put everything in their mouths.
  • Is the surface porous or sealed: A porous surface cannot be cleaned hygienically.
  • Can it be repaired: If something tears or breaks, find out whether individual elements can be repaired or replaced, and how quickly.

At PlayTechnik, both design and manufacturing are handled by our own team at our facility in Komló. In practice, this means we can repair and replace individual elements — there’s no need to throw away an entire set because of one damaged piece.

Frequently asked questions

A practical, safe play corner can be created in as little as 4 m² — roughly the size of a lobby corner or an unused space in a restaurant. There’s no upper limit: above 20 m², there’s room for several types of play and separate movement areas. We always tailor the exact layout to the space available.
